URS, availability and service guaranteed across the globe

URS, Unie van Redding en Sleepdienst SA in full, is a large towing and salvage company operating out of all port facilities in the Dutch-Belgian basin of Escaut. Founded in 1980, URS operates one of the most modern and efficient fleets and offers a complete range of services. Its top-quality equipment is vital to ensure a safe, reliable and high-quality service.

URS' strengths are its maritime, salvage and technical maintenance departments as well as its workshop. Its experienced, well-trained staff, who provide excellent customer service, ensure that it retains the knowledge and know-how required by today's navigation industry.

Aside from its traditional towing and salvage role, URS has extended its activities right along the Escaut. From the outset, it has participated in the development of oil fields in the North Sea. Since it was founded, URS has retained its position as the main freight port operator.

Today, URS is the Belgian branch of the company Smit and manages the commercial and operational activities of the tug boat fleet for the Belgian and Dutch maritime ports.

In addition, URS is the Ship Manager for offshore vessels, diving support and the ocean-going tug boats in the European fleet. The Antwerp unit manages and ensures the maintenance of a fleet of 75 ships and boats.

Smit is a towing and salvage company operating across all five continents. It is part of the Boskalis group, listed on the stock exchange, which operates in the marine dredging sector. The group has 1100 buildings and 14,000 employees.

We met Patrick Van Drom, Senior Human Resources Advisor for URS. He is responsible for all staff, comprising some 600 workers, 69 of whom are employees.

Before Talentfinder...

"As we have no social services department, we are entirely responsible for social legislation for ship owners. As we didn't have a tool for recruiting employees, everything had to be done manually."

"To recruit our employees, we placed advertisements in the daily press, but they resulted in very few responses. We were looking for a solution to help simplify our task and improve the quality and the number of applicants for our employee vacancies."

"When you contacted us, we hadn't managed to find an applicant for a specific vacancy, that of Crewing Coordinator for staff scheduling and crewing of a vessel. As the rate was competitive compared to those of newspapers, and we were able to try out the software for free, we signed the purchase order immediately."

Benefits of Talentfinder

"We were able to set up and use Talentfinder over the telephone and via e-mail. It was really simple. Telephone support was very clear and we were able to start work immediately."

"The Internet-based software is very accessible. The tool is practical even for a single vacancy. By centralising CVs, we now have a clear summary of applicants, workers and employees."

"The management of candidates, the automatic response to applicants who haven't been successful and the simplification of the follow up have proved to be very positive for us and have saved us a lot of time."

"Our vacancy advertisement was online in just two days. We received a significant number of applications from suitable candidates relatively quickly."

Today

"We had never used recruitment software in the past. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to use it and the amount of time it saved."

"I am a very happy client and I most definitely want to continue to work using online advertisements and the Talentfinder software, especially because we now find appropriate applicants more quickly than in the past and at the right price!"
